The brief from Liverpool City Council was to advise the Authority on all access issues relating to the Paradise Street Development Area (PSDA) of the city centre, and to negotiate with the developer to achieve an “exemplary” standard of disabled access for the development.
The scheme involves a comprehensive redevelopment of 42 acres of the city centre, including new streets and 1.6 million sq ft of new buildings.
The project had already commenced when Evans Jones were appointed and the development process had evolved to the point that design teams were committed to certain design principles.
The biggest challenge was to retain the momentum of the construction process, whilst negotiating with the numerous design teams to achieve inclusive design standards in the development.
