Access Appraisals
Our team of NRAC Registered Disabled Access Consultants combine a detailed knowledge of disability access regulations and best practice, with the technical, practical and commercially- aware approach that you would expect of a Chartered Building Surveyor.
What is an Access Appraisal?
Typically an Access Appraisal is a desktop study of the design details of a new project which identifies potential barriers to access for disabled users, elements of non-compliance with current Inclusive Design guidance or legislation and opportunities to promote best practice design standards.
Why do I need an Access Appraisal?
An Access Appraisal by a suitably qualified NRAC Registered Disabled Access Consultant helps to avoid mistakes in the design process which could put you at risk of a complaint or claim under the Equality Act 2010 after completion.
The Access Appraisal can also be a means to promote best-practice during the Design process by using the knowledge of the Disabled Access Consultant to champion inclusive design standards and identify opportunities to push beyond simple compliance with disabled access regulations.
The Access Appraisal is also an ideal preparation for the development of an Access Statement, as it identifies early the key issues posed by the site which will need to be addressed in the Access Statement.
