Evans Jones acted on behalf of the applicant, WorkShop Cheltenham, in promoting the ambitious redevelopment of an under-utilised car park as a mixed-use innovation hub.
Working closely with the scheme’s architects, Edge Design Workshop, Evans Jones provided planning support through pre-application and application stages, including production of the planning statement submitted to Cheltenham Borough Council.
The site presented a number of physical constraints, including its close proximity to the oldest building in Cheltenham; the Grade I-listed Cheltenham Minster. Evans Jones undertook historical research and proactively engaged with Historic England, to address key heritage issues.
Other challenges included highways, amenity, access, safety and usability considerations, which had to be carefully managed to ensure a positive result.
Despite being a highly ambitious project, Evans Jones presented a compelling case in support of the scheme and full planning permission was achieved with the unanimous support of the Planning Committee.
