Honda UK Manufacturing have agreed the sale of their production site in Swindon to Europe’s largest developer of industrial and logistics facilities; Panattoni.
The existing operations at the site are due to end in July. The 370 acre site currently employs around 3,500 people and is a key component in both the local and national supply chain. The site will likely be handed over to Panattoni in the spring of 2022.
Panattoni are seeking to regenerate and redevelop the site and are promising £700million of investment. Work will start shortly on gaining the necessary planning consents, with Panattoni working closely with Honda, Swindon Borough Council and engaging with the local community.
Mark Campbell, Head of Planning at Evans Jones and Swindon resident, comments
“This is great news for Swindon and the wider local area. Honda have been a key employer in the town for over 30 years and their decision to stop operations at the site was a huge blow.
However, having now secured a deal to take the site forward there is a great opportunity to deliver a truly outstanding employment offering that can help diversify the local economy even further. This also brings with it a wider opportunity for greater growth within Swindon and greater investment into local services and facilities."
The team at Evans Jones regularly advise upon redevelopment and repurposing of brownfield sites both from a strategic planning perspective but also in terms of delivery via our project management and QS division” .
