Gloucestershire construction workers and professionals battled it out on the golf course in a Ryder Cup style event to raise vital funds for the Pied Piper Appeal.
The tournament was attended by local businesses from around Gloucestershire including Evans Jones, Knights Solicitors, CGT Lettings, Kier Construction, Hughes Paddison, Hazlewoods and Willans.
The team of professionals (Europe) beat the construction workers (USA) 3 ½ - 2 ½. Other winners from the day include Justin Lawrence of CGT Lettings for the worst dressed golfer. Barry Chapman of Natwest and Jon Mayes of Spencer Mayes for being the most valuable players from each team, Simon Mckeag of ASH & Co for longest drive and Martyn Smith of Converge for nearest the pin.
The day raised over £400 for the Pied Piper Appeal, a charity that transforms the lives of sick and disabled children and will pay for a new de-humidifier for children with chest illnesses at Gloucester Royal Hospital.
Event organiser Ian Eggleton, Director at Evans Jones, said:
"Clearly the Construction Team were weighed down by the burden of representing the Americans which had a significant de-motivating effect. Even the team uniform didn′t help. We do gain some consolation in knowing that the Europeans won which we hope is an omen for the real thing. Thanks to our Partners for the day, Knights Solicitors and to all who attended and lent their support. As ever it was a fun day but we also raised enough to buy a much needed piece of equipment for the kids at Gloucester Royal so well done to all. We look forward to regaining the trophy in two years time."
